Cairo launches the Nasser Fellowship for African Leadership

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (African Youth Office - Central Administration of Parliament and Civic Education) is launching the activities of Nasser Fellowship for African Leadership in cooperation with many national institutions and bodies, to be held from 8 to 22 June at the Civic Education Center in Al-gezira.

The Fellowship aims to transfer the ancient Egyptian experience in building national institutions, and to create a new generation of young African transformational leaders with a vision, in line with the directions of Egypt’s presidency of the African Union and who believe in serving the goals of African unity through integration, in addition to establishing a gathering of young African leaders who have the most influence on  continent level;  With training, necessary skills and strategic visions.

The Fellowship targets 100 young executive leaders from member states of the African Union, decision makers in the government sector, executive leaders in the private sector, youth of civil society, heads of national youth councils, university faculty members, researchers at strategic research centers and thought, members of professional syndicates, media professionals and journalists.

Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership is one of the mechanisms for implementing the (1Million by 2021) initiative to qualify one million African youth by 2021, which was launched by the Commission for Science, Technology and Human Resources of the African Union in April 2019, and one of the mechanisms of “harnessing the demographic dividend through investment in youth”, in conjunction with taking over  Egypt Presidency of the African Union 2019.

Nasser is also the first (African-African) Fellowship that targets young African executive leaders with diverse disciplines within their societies, and it is one of the mechanisms of critical enabling elements for African transformation, approved in the text of Africa Agenda 2063;  This is to consolidate and enhance African values ​​through self-reliance, solidarity, hard work, and social prosperity, and to build on African successes, experiences and best practices to formulate the African model for transformation and development.

This comes within the framework of the keenness of the Ministry of Youth and Sports on playing its role entrusted with strengthening the role of African youth by providing all forms of support, rehabilitation and training, in addition to empowering them in leadership positions and benefiting from their abilities and ideas, in implementation of what the President of the Republic - Abdel Fattah El Sisi – announced during the activities of the World Youth Forum which witnessed an honorable representation of the youth of African countries in implementation of the President’s decision that 2019 be the year of education.

It is noteworthy that the State Information Service has allocated, through the electronic portal that was launched on the occasion of Egypt's presidency of the African Union, a media platform to display information and news about the fellowship eight languages: Arabic, English, French, Swahili, Portuguese, Amharic, Chinese and Hausa.

Nasser Fellowship for Transformational Leadership witnessed a strong demand from the youth of the African continent during the registration days. The number of applicants reached 851 young leaders representing 51 African countries from various disciplines.
