Adel El-Mahrouki’s journey is a testament to the power of following one’s true calling, even when it requires a complete change in direction. He was initially determined to pursue a career in computer science, but his life took an unexpected turn during his final year at the American University in Cairo when he discovered a deep passion for television. This discovery led him to make a bold decision: he left behind a nearly completed computer science degree and fully immersed himself in the captivating world of television production.
He became fascinated with the many aspects of the television industry, including camera work, field reporting, programming, editing, writing, and satellite broadcasting. This fascination fueled his ambition and marked the beginning of his professional journey. Adel began his career in 2005 at the Cairo bureau of NHK, Japan’s national news network. He quickly became immersed in the dynamic world of field coverage, witnessing major political events such as parliamentary elections and Egypt’s first multi-candidate presidential election.
From the start, Adel showed exceptional talent. He was trusted with writing interview scripts for high-ranking officials, including Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif.
Adel El-Mahrouki’s career has been defined by his wide-ranging experience in news coverage across sixteen countries in the Middle East and North Africa. His work has taken him from the Gulf countries in the east, across most Arab nations, to Algeria in the west, as well as to the occupied Palestinian territories and south from Egypt to Ethiopia. He has worked in some of the region’s most challenging and dangerous environments, including moments of crossfire and airstrikes in Lebanon and election coverage in Iran.
His dedication to journalism is reflected in his willingness to spend countless nights in newsrooms throughout the region. He is always ready to be the first on the scene when news breaks. His energy, resilience, and drive to deliver engaging content to his audience, especially during live talk shows, have become trademarks of his career.
