“The Holy Quran Radio Station from Cairo”

As much as the sentiements of listeners were attached to the angelic voices broadcasted by The Holy Quran Radio, the phrase “The Holy Quran Radio Station from Cairo” has stuck in the minds of the entire Arab world since President Gamal Abdel Nasser ordered on March 25, 1964 to launch the Holy Quran Radio, the first radio specialized in religious media in the Arab and Islamic world.

This came in response to a distorted copy of the Quran, a gilded edition of the Noble Quran, with luxurious paper, and elegant output, which appeared in the early 60s of the last century. It contained intended malicious distortions of some verses of the Holy Quran. So, Abdel Nasser ordered the entire audio recording of the Holy Quran, the “Recited Quran”, to protect it from distortion. So that it could be distributed to the Islamic world. This was the first audio collection of the Noble Quran after its first written collection during the era of the Caliph of the Messenger of God -may God’s prayers and peace be upon him- Abu Bakr al-Siddiq.

Indeed, this experiment proved successful, and there are audio versions of the Holy Quran all over the Islamic world, of the most famous Egyptian reciters, such as: Sheikh Muhammad Siddiq Al-Minshawi, Sheikh Abdul Basit Abdul Samad, Sheikh Muhammad Rifaat, and Sheikh Mustafa Ismail, with three recitations, including Warsh recitation and Hafs recitation. The Holy Quran Radio was broadcasted daily from six until eleven in the morning, and from two until eleven in the evening, an average of 14 hours a day.
