Dr. Badr Abdelatty: Extensive Diplomatic Experience Leading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Dr. Badr Abdelatty currently serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, building on a long diplomatic and academic career spanning over three decades. Throughout his career, he has been distinguished by his competence and expertise in foreign policy issues, particularly European relations, migration issues, and regional and international cooperation.
Dr. Abdelatty holds advanced degrees from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science at Cairo University, including:
• Bachelor’s degree in Political Science
• Master’s degree in International Relations
• Ph.D. in International Relations
His diplomatic journey began in 1989, following his role as a researcher at the Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies. He has held multiple positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in Egypt’s missions abroad, with some of his prominent roles being:
• 2021–2024: Ambassador of Egypt to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Permanent Representative of Egypt to the European Union and NATO.
• 2019–2021: Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs, National Coordinator for the Union for the Mediterranean, and Egypt’s Representative to the Board of Governors of the “Anna Lindh” Foundation for the Dialogue Between Cultures.
• 2015–2019: Ambassador of Egypt to the Federal Republic of Germany.
• 2013–2015: Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs, Spokesperson for the Ministry, and Director of the Popular Diplomacy Department.
• 2012–2013: Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for European and Western European Affairs, and Member of the Board of Governors of the “Anna Lindh” Foundation.
• 2008–2012: Deputy Head of Mission at Egypt’s Permanent Delegation to the European Union in Brussels, covering Belgium, Luxembourg, and NATO.
• 2007–2008: Director of the Palestine Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
• 2003–2007: Counselor at Egypt’s Embassy in Washington, responsible for the U.S. Congress and African Affairs.
• 2001–2003: First Secretary at the Foreign Minister’s office, handling African Affairs, the Peace Process, and Iran.
• 1997–2001: Second Secretary at Egypt’s Embassy in Tokyo, responsible for African Affairs and the Peace Process.
• 1995–1997: Second Secretary in the Deputy Assistant Minister’s Office for Regional Economic Cooperation.
• 1991–1995: Third Secretary at Egypt’s Embassy in Tel Aviv, responsible for Israeli domestic affairs and the Peace Process.

Throughout his career, Dr. Abdelatty has represented Egypt at numerous regional and international conferences and forums, including the 1996 Cairo Economic Conference for the Middle East and North Africa.
